 Columbia Energy and Environmental Services is an established woman-owned small business headquartered in Richland, WA, which offers full-service engineering, design, fabrication, instrumentation and controls, and technology development.  Currently there is an opening for 2 additional Welder/Fabricators who are able and willing to perform work throughout stages of fabrication and can thrive in a procedurally oriented and fast-paced environment.   Job Responsibilities/Duties:


  • Perform welding on critical and support equipment to a qualified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). Perform structural welding on parts and components per the requirements of various specifications as prescribed by Project Travelers, Engineering Drawings, and Work Orders 
  • Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Company policies and procedures 
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols 
  • Fabricate and weld parts in accordance with  Project documentation without need of direct supervision  
  • Sufficient working knowledge of  materials to determine the proper WPS to use and the ability to select the correct filler metal and gas for a given WPS 
  • Determine the proper sequence of welding in order to prevent or reduce the amount of warpage to the work piece 
  • Design and fabricate weld fixtures as necessary to perform individual welding projects 
  • Maintain weld records 
  • Fabrication: cut, grind, drill, tap, shear, bend, roll, and fit-up 
  • Welding: perform welding operations in accordance with WPS’s for processes such as FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW as required. Including pre and post weld heating operations as specified in WPS’s as applicable 
  • Assembly: assemble basic mechanical equipment, structural components, and piping systems. 
  • Perform self-verification of welded parts and assemblies before inspection to ensure quality of work performed meets or exceeds acceptance criteria
  • Interface with QA/QC personnel 
  • Report unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment 
  • Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts 
  • Measure work pieces to determine accuracy and acceptability per given requirements 
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece 
  • Ensure that all documentation is correctly filled out and kept current as work progresses 
  • Keep a clean and organized work area 


 Required Qualifications:   Revisions were made below:


  • 2 or more years’ experience with current welding certifications or an Associates of Applied Sciences in Welding Technology  (reduced # of yrs' experience)
  • Must be able to take an on-site skills test to demonstrate adequate skill level prior to employment
  • Must be able to pass at least one (1) Weld Test (In a timely manner) prior to employment 
  • Valid Driver License and clean driving record 
  • Drug and alcohol free (must be able to pass pre-employment drug test) 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Able to operate tools, machinery, and vehicles safely 
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. (Reduced weight requirement)
  • Must be flexible with hours and able to work overtime as required 
  • Self-starter with ability to work with little supervision 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to read and understand both verbal and written directions 
  • Highly Self-Motivated

  • Ability to perform arithmetic as required for layout and fabrication i.e. add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals, solve for missing angles or sides of a triangle,…

  • Supply your own hand tools 


Preferred Qualifications: 


  •  Experience in R&D or Prototype fabrication 
  • Experience working to a NQA-1 or ASME Section VIII program 
  • Experience reading and working to drawings 
  • Experience performing welds subjected to testing such as UT and RT 
  • Ability to weld pipe, sheet metal, and structural steel 


Working Conditions:
This position is performed in a shop/construction/field setting with occasional relocations to projects, Vendors, and Industrial sites. The atmosphere is fast paced and deadline oriented with focus on safety and quality.
